“My eyes have also come in contact with cable ends, and I do not take chances anymore that I will come away unharmed,” she says.
“Today’s safety goggles are equipped with anti-fogging and UV protection and are ergonomically designed. And they’re pretty cool, too – sort of designer glasses,” Gyllensten says with a smile.
Think safety
“Eyes are very sensitive and vulnerable, and eye injuries can have dire consequences. We only have two eyes, and there are no spares,” says Ulstein Verft HSE inspector Grete Lund.
“Wearing safety goggles helps reduce the number of injuries resulting in short-
or long-term absence. We must think safety in everything we do,” she says.
Applies to everyone
Wearing hardhats and protective footwear has long been mandatory. Now safety goggles are a part of that gear. The rule applies to everyone, including visitors.
