Heavy Lift Vessels
With the shift to deeper waters, the offshore industry changed from using fixed platforms towards floating structures and subsea structures. This results in lighter topsides and subsea templates to be placed in water depths up to 3,000 meters. As a consequence, the existing fleet of heavy lift vessels is becoming less suitable to meet future installation needs. Ulstein Sea of Solutions identified the discrepancy between future needs and the existing heavy lift vessels available. The new generation of heavy lift vessels are designed as mono hull vessels with a lifting capacity of approximately 5,000 – 6,000 metric tons, allowing for quick mobilization times around the world.
